Understanding the Pap Smear, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and its Link to Cervical Cancer. Please join Central Piedmont's Health Profession and Human Services team for our monthly Community Town Hall Events where we will cover various health related topics on the last Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm-7:30pm. Did you know that HPV (the Human Papillomavirus) is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States? There are 79 million people infected with this virus in the United States, and 14 million new cases occur each year. According to the CDC, HPV is the cause for nearly ALL cervical cancers. Cervical cancer is a preventable disease. Come join the Central Piedmont Cytotechnology faculty in this interactive session to learn more about the importance of the Pap smear, HPV and its link to cervical cancer, and how to prevent this disease.
