BELLPORT, NY â Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are investigating the circumstances under which a person was struck by a train near the Bellport train station on Saturday and died, a spokesman said.
Long Island Rail Road officials announced that service between Bellport and Montauk was suspended in both directions "after a person was struck by a non-passenger train near Bellport," in a tweet at about 11:13 p.m. on Saturday. Emergency service personnel were on scene, according to the agency, which expected further updates.
