FRANKLIN, WI — The Franklin Fire Department saw more than 60 requests for service following the storms last week. One home was struck by lightning, according to the Department union's week in review. Last weeks storms were the highlight of fire department service calls. Over 200,000 people across the state were without power. In Franklin, people were trapped in elevators, power lines fell to the ground and electrical transformers caught fire, according to the union's Facebook post. On Aug. 11 a home in the 4700 block of Alesci Drive was struck by lightning. First responders saw damage on the roof of the house and found smoke inside the attic, the union's post said. Crews quickly started putting water onto the smoldering attic and extinguished the insulation that had been burning. One person was evacuated and damage was estimated at $30,000, according to the union's post.
