Armed Carjacking Reported At IKEA In Potomac Mills: Police

WOODBRIDGE, VA — There was an armed carjacking at the IKEA in Woodbridge on Monday, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Now, authorities are looking for the suspect. The incident was reported to police around 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16. Officers then responded to the IKEA, which is located at 2901 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge, to investigate the carjacking. A victim, who police identified as a 38-year-old man, said that he was parked in the furniture store's loading area when an unknown man approached him. The suspect then opened the victim's car door, and the victim noticed he had a gun, according to the police report. The suspect then demanded that the victim exit the car, police said. The victim complied. "When the victim got out of the vehicle, the suspect got into the driver's seat and drove out of the area," the Prince William County Police Department wrote in their report. No injuries were reported from the carjacking. After they arrived on the scene, officers searched the are for the car: a 2013 Silver Hyundai Elantra with Virginia license plate UGK-4004. The car was not located, police said. The suspect was described as a Black man who is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and has a "thin build," police said. The suspect may be in his early 20s. At the time of the carjacking, the suspect was wearing a black hat, a face mask, and was carrying a firearm.
