Do hedgehogs make good pets? Are they the right pet for me? Should I buy from any breeder or a licensed breeder? Those are big questions! Unfortunately, so many hedgehogs are bred for money, and by backyard breeders who purchase them from people who need to re-home their pet. They have no concern if their hedgies are possibly related or healthy. They sell out of parking lots, because they don’t want to be caught selling hedgehogs illegally. They don’t give you good advise or needed support if you have concerns. Please consider this before purchasing a hedgehog. Call listed breeders. Ask questions. Are they licensed, how long have they been breeding, do they have a mentor when they are new at this? How long will they support you with questions when purchasing a hedgehog from them? There are some wonderful, honest breeders in WA, and lots of great support groups. Before buying a hedgehog, please ask yourself if you are willing to put in the time they need. Hedgehogs can live up to 5 years, some even longer. Please get informed first… Thank you.
