CONNECTICUT — Coronavirus-related hospitalizations and positivity rates continue to edge upward in the state, as the more contagious delta variant continues to spread.
Over the weekend, Connecticut's daily coronavirus positivity rate climbed to 3.55 percent, based on 44,577 tests yielding 1,581 new cases. The total of laboratory-confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases reported among Connecticut residents is now 363,417.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to categorize four of Connecticut's eight counties —Middlesex, New Haven, Hartford and New London — as experiencing "high" community transmission of COVID-19. The classification is defined by 100 or more cases per 100,000 people, or a positivity rate of 10 percent or higher, over the past seven days.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 continue to climb upward steadily in Connecticut. Twenty-six residents were admitted into area hospitals since Friday, bringing the total number of patients to 285.
