ROCKVILLE, MD — After closing for 14 months, the pedestrian bridge connecting Rockville Town Center to its Metro Station over the Rockville Pike reopened.
The city announced the bridge reopened Monday after finishing repairs. The repairs included:
Fixing cracks and reinforcing metal decking on the bridgeAdding a nonskid coating and fixing cracks on the deck of the bridge Adding exhaust fans to improve air ventilationReplacing the roof and waterproofing on the glass panels and roofingFixing security gates Glass panels that shattered in June 2020 have not been replaced yet due to supply issues, the Metro said. Those are expected to be fixed sometime in early fall.
Bus stops at the Metro Station are being relocated on Monday to prepare for future construction on the Rockville and Shady Grove Metro station platform canopies. Those stations will close from Sept. 11 to Dec. 4. The city said the bridge will be open during these canopy repairs.
