HAMDEN, CT — Quinnipiac University is urging students to get a COVID-19 vaccine, and has a fine system in place for those who have not informed the university of their vaccination status. The university emailed about 600 students on Monday who had not submitted their vaccination information by a previously set deadline of August 1. The university asks students to be fully vaccinated by September 14, according to the email. Quinnipiac students who do not comply with the vaccination requirement face a weekly fee that would total $2,275 for the semester. Unvaccinated students must take a weekly COVID test, and face a $100 fine every week they do not participate. They will also lose access to the campus network and Wi-Fi if they are not fully vaccinated by September 14. John Morgan, associate vice president for public relations at Quinnipiac, told Patch 30 students had updated their records by Tuesday morning. "Our hope is we don't have to assess these charges on anyone, but rather the students provide their necessary documentation as required before the start of the semester," Morgan said. Morgan added all full-time faculty and staff have given the university their vaccine documentation.
