Press release from the Hamden Police Department: August 13, 2021 On August 7, 2021, at approximately 12:15 AM, Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Goodrich Street on the report of "shots fired." Officers located a 43-year-old New Haven resident, lying on the sidewalk, with several gunshot wounds. The victim was shot multiple times, sustaining injuries to his chest and hip. The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious physical injuries. Investigation revealed that the victim was engaged in a verbal argument with Samuel Mabry. Mabry was identified as shooting the victim multiple times during the altercation. Detective Shawn Nutcher of the Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit led the investigation into the shooting and applied for an arrest warrant for Samuel Mabry. On August 13, 2021, Hamden Police arrested Samuel Mabry, 43, of New Haven. He was charged with Assault 1st Degree with a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, and Carrying a Pistol without a Permit. Mabry was in custody on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest and held on an additional $500,000.00 court set bond. He is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on September 16, 2021.
