BOWIE, MD — Police announced they arrested a suspect accused of a spring shooting in Bowie on Thursday. Officers identified the arrestee as Meleke Quinton Beverly, 18. An incident report noted that Beverly faces charges of:
Attempted first-degree murderAttempted second-degree murderFirearm use in a violent felonyRelated crimes Authorities added they found the male victim on May 29 around 9:40 p.m. in the 12400 block of Shawmont Lane. The write-up mentioned the victim said a driver shot him while he was walking past the Bowie Community Center, located at 3209 Stonybrook Drive. Medics took him to an unnamed hospital for treatment of his multiple torso gunshot wounds, the press release indicated.
Detectives explained they found seven shell casings in the community center parking lot. Investigators identified the suspect and their vehicle using surveillance video.
Officials stated they executed a search warrant Thursday in Waldorf. Along with the Charles County Sheriff's Office, the Bowie Criminal Investigations Division wrote it found a suspect. The team shared it also seized a vehicle and found evidence inside.
The Bowie Police Department clarified the investigation is ongoing.
