93 Arrested In 'Operation Washout' In Baltimore: U.S. Marshals

BALTIMORE, MD — More than 90 people were arrested in July as part of a coordinated effort by law enforcement across the region targeting violent criminals, gangs and firearms, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Called "Operation Washout," the initiative enabled officers to serve 110 Baltimore Police Department warrants. "This operation demonstrated our ongoing efforts in working with all of our law enforcement partners at the federal, state and local level in creating a safer Baltimore," Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said in a statement Monday. "Participation in joint operations like Operation Washout reflect our ongoing partnership and commitment to apprehending some of the most violent offenders and taking them off the streets." The U.S. Marshals Service announced the following suspects were arrested: 26 wanted for domestic violence16 documented gang members and associates11 wanted for attempted homicideFour wanted for homicideFour wanted on firearms chargesThree wanted for rape Police said they seized nine firearms and served more than 100 warrants. The two-week operation was coordinated in part by the U.S. Marshals Service, which has conducted "Operation Washout" elsewhere to root out the most violent offenders and organizations in an area. Its goal is to provide "immediate relief from gang-related violence," according to a statement from the U.S. Marshals Service. The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and Baltimore Police Department's Warrant Apprehension Task Force led the effort, the statement said. The regional task force is a congressionally supported initiative focused on reducing violence in the National Capital Region by identifying and apprehending those "wanted for egregious crimes against the community," according to the U.S. Marshals Service. "Arresting these most violent fugitives has enhanced safety for the citizens of Baltimore and the surrounding areas," said U.S. Marshal for the District of Maryland Johnny Hughes. "The United States Marshals Service stands committed to working with our allied law enforcement partners in combating violent crime." These agencies were part of Operation Washout: U.S. Marshals Service; Baltimore Police Department; Baltimore County Police Department; Maryland State Police; Department of Homeland Security Investigations; FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Howard County Police Department; Maryland Transportation Authority Police; Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and Annapolis Police Department.
