South Bay Doctor's Medical License Revoked, CA Medical Board Says

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A Redondo Beach doctor's medical license was revoked after allegations of gross negligence, the Medical Board of California announced last week. John William Annable, M.D., surrendered his medical license Aug. 10 following an accusation filed Feb. 18, 2019. "He will no longer be permitted to practice as a physician and surgeon in California, and also agrees to surrender his wallet certificates, wall license and any D.E.A. Certificate(s) for an address in California," according to the agreement to surrender the medical license. A patient alleged that between March 6, 2013, and April 30, 2015, they had complained about having extreme anxiety and inability to perform at work, according to the complaint. The patient was examined and was considered essentially normal except for an elevated pulse of 103. The patient had a psychiatric evaluation and denied pain complaints but shared they had spine surgery. He said he did not use alcohol or drugs. "An EKG was ordered; no results are documented," according to the complaint. In the complaint, Annable was accused of gross negligence during his care and treatment, repeated negligent acts, incompetence, prescribing an addict, prescribing without performing a physical examination, excessive prescribing, failure to maintain adequate and accurate medical records. The disciplinary action and decision was made April 6, 2020. His license was revoked and he was placed on probation for two years. He was issued a cease practice order in May 2021, according to the board. Annable is listed on Providence Family Medical Center Redondo Beach's website as having a family practice. (Courtesy of Providence) He received his undergraduate and medical education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, according to the hospital's website. Annable completed his internship at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital. Annable also graduated from the U.S. Air Force School of Medicine and served as a U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon during the Vietnam War. The board issued his Physician's and Surgeon's Certificate in 1968. "He has maintained his love of aviation over the years, serving as Senior Medical Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration," according to the website.
