Novato Couple Aids Haitian Relief Effort

NOVATO, CA —A Novato couple that runs a nonprofit aimed at helping Haiti recover from the devastating earthquake is now raising money to help provide relief Caribbean nation in the aftermath of another devastating seismic event. The 7.2 quake that jolted Haiti on Saturday has left at least 1,941 people dead and affected some 1.2 million people including 540,000 children, CNN reports. The 7.0 2010 quake killed over 300,000 people. Haiti on the Rise is run by a Haitian-born Jacqueline Oriscar Lee and her husband Randall Lee. Jacqueline Oriscar Lee founded the San Rafael-based nonprofit after visiting Haiti in 2014 and 2015. "My heart just, just broke. Cut into pieces," she told KTVU. "Knowing what we've been through in 2010, it was so hard. I lost a lot of friends, a lot of families. All of my network was basically destroyed."
