MOKENA, IL — The 2021-22 school year will kick off Tuesday for all three Mokena School District 159 schools. Classes will resume with a state-wide mask mandate in place for all students, faculty and staff, per an executive order by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. The mandate has been the subject of contentious debate across the state, but Mokena D159's Board of Education unanimously approved a revision to its return to school plan at its Aug. 11 meeting so that the schools would be in compliance with the order.
