Firefighters Quell 9-Acre Brush Fire In Contra Costa County

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A wildfire burned nine acres between the Tassajara and Morgan Territory communities and nearly spurred evacuations Saturday evening before firefighters were able to knock it down, officials said. Cal Fire and San Ramon Valley Fire crews responded to the blaze, burning east of Danville, around 6: 15 p.m. Officials deployed several engines, water tenders and an air attack to quell the fire. The wind fanned flames as firefighters battled the fast-moving blaze. NBC Bay Area reported that the brush fire ignited from a structure fire in the area. At least one person who was in the burning building was hospitalized, a witness told the station. Evacuation warnings were briefly in place for residents near Finley Road and Morgan Territory. Officials contained the fire and canceled the warning around 10:30 p.m., according to the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office. Firefighters remained in the area overnight to establish a fire line and extinguish hot spots, Cal Fire SCU tweeted.
