CHARLOTTE, NC — An investigation is underway in west Charlotte after a four-year-old child was shot accidentally by a juvenile who found an unsecured gun, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Long Ridge Lane, according to a police report.
CMPD officers responded to the home, where they found the victim with a non life-threatening gunshot wound. The child was then transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
"Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence," CMPD said. "Initial evidence suggests that another juvenile at the residence located an unsecured firearm inside the residence and accidentally shot the victim."
As part of the investigation, CMPD investigators are interviewing all adults who were in the home at the time of the shooting, CMPD said.
