Description

Mariposa’s First Wed: Authentic Food, Authentic Life: If There’s an Authentic Recipe for Chile Verde, Does It Teach Us Anything About Life? For Mariposa’s First Wednesday Diversity Dialogue on Sept 1st, 6:00-8:30 pm, we are joined by writer and teacher, Bill St John in Althea's Lower Theater*. Bill will speak about—and answers questions or respond to comments about—how he sees the search for authenticity in food and cooking as it bears on the same search for authenticity in a person's life. *Please note that the Lower Theater is not ADA accessible. Bill St John writes and teaches. Since 1983, he has penned more than 5,000 pieces for newspapers and magazines such as The Denver Post, Chicago Tribune, and Wine & Spirits. You’ll find his writing in the archives of the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, New York Daily News, and, as syndicated, in 99 newspapers from every region of the country. For decades, he has written and taught about wine, food, cooking, travel, history of cuisines, and other subjects, at the university level and at schools of his own devising. He has visited 44 countries, 42 of the U.S. states, and 10 Canadian provinces. Bill once interviewed the nuns who cook for the Pope; lived for seven days as a monk at the Abbey of Orval in order to write about its beer; cooked on the Venice Simplon Orient-Express; roasted bison for Dame Edna Everage (out of costume); traveled 36 hours round-trip to Burgundy to interview Georges Duboeuf on Beaujolais; and his shoulder propped Julia Child on a quarter-hour nap during an interminably boring meeting (twice).
