March for Marie on Women's Equality Day 2021! Walk in the footsteps of suffragists from across the country who came to Peru, Indiana, under the leadership of Marie Stuart Edwards to fight for the right to vote and the 19th Amendment’s ratification. This march and guided tour about Marie's life will be led by students of American Government and Public Speaking at Ivy Tech Community College. DETAILS: Wear white if possible.March will end at Peru Public Library for the statue unveiling and public dedication to Marie Stuart Edwards on Thursday, August 26 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. HEAR THE CHANTS to be sung in rounds during the march. Don't be shy!Free parking is available provided by Riverview Event Center.Return shuttle service will be provided by the Miami County YMCA after the public dedication and statue unveiling at Peru Public Library. PLEASE REGISTER (GENERAL TICKET - FREE) FOR A RIDE BACK TO YOUR CAR.March SIGN MAKING Party! Join us on Friday, August 20,11:00 a.m., at Ivy Tech Community College, Peru campus, to make the sign you'd like to carry during the march. Bring poster board, large cardboard backing, and any art supplies. You can also make extra signs for others who are joining the march on August 26. This project -- the design, installation, and dedication of a bronze statue to Hoosier suffragist Marie Stuart Edwards at Peru Public Library -- received support from a Preserving Women’s Legacy Grant, a program of the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial presented by Indiana Humanities and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs through funding from the state of Indiana.
