Join us for a weekend with The Reverend Wil Gafney, PhD., author, priest, and professor! The Rev. Wil Gafney, Ph.D. is the Right Rev. Samuel B. Hulsey Professor of Hebrew Bible at Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas. She is the author of Womanist Midrash: A Reintroduction to Women of the Torah and of the Throne, a commentary on Nahum, Habakkuk, and Zephaniah; Daughters of Miriam: Women Prophets in Ancient Israel, A Women's Lectionary for the Whole Church; and co-editor of The Peoples’ Bible and The Peoples’ Companion to the Bible. She is an Episcopal priest canonically resident in the Diocese of Pennsylvania and licensed in the Diocese of Fort Worth, and a former Army chaplain and congregational pastor in the AME Zion Church. A former member of the Dorshei Derekh Reconstructionist Minyan of the Germantown Jewish Center in Philadelphia, she has co-taught courses with and for the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Seminary in Wyncote, PA. We are excited to welcome her in-person to Charlotte, North Carolina this fall! *MASKS AND PROOF OF VACCINATION REQUIRED Saturday, October 16, 202111:15am Arrival and Lunch 12:15pm-1:15pm Plenary 1 Plenary 1: Translating Women Back Into Scripture for A #WomensLectionary This session will introduce participants to frequently unexamined aspects of biblical translation in commonly available bibles and the intentional choices made in A Women’s Lectionary for the Whole Church. 1:15pm-1:45pm Break 2:00pm-3:00pm Plenary 2 Plenary 2: Reading Women in Scripture for Preaching, Study and Devotion This session will provide an overview of A Women’s Lectionary for the Whole Church, its genesis, production and content. There will also be an in depth exploration of specific passages appointed for specific days including time for public and private reading and discussion. 3:00pm-3:45pm Book Signing with The Rev. Dr. Benjamin Boswell, Senior Minister Previously known as the Jesus Seminar and then Jesus the Christ in the 21st Century, and nicknamed J21, this event found a home at Myers Park Baptist Church in 1998. Since its inception, the series has expanded to explore a wide range of issues and perspectives related to individual and communal faith formation. It is our hope that through the reimagined Faith in the 21st Century, we will continue to expand our minds together as we embrace the evolution of religious and theological scholarship and welcome new voices and ideas.
