Russo's In Watertown Is Saying Goodbye After More Than 100 Years

WATERTOWN, MA — After working the family's century-old business for more than 70 years, Tony Russo is retiring and shutting down Russo's in Watertown. The shop took to Facebook Sunday, posting that owner Tony Russo would be retiring and closing the business this fall. The business began in 1919, starting out as a small farm and eventually working its way up to the huge success Watertown residents have come to love. Russo's website posted its goodbyes while giving a little background information on Tony, explaining how he has worked in all areas of the retail and wholesale business through decades with his days starting around 3:30 a.m. and ending after 8 p.m. "At any time, customers can find him involved in the displays of the fruits, vegetables, flowers, bakery, deli, cheese, and garden departments," the post reads. "Tony deeply appreciates and will truly miss the employees who have worked every day, sometimes outside in the harshest of weather conditions. These employees represent the backbone and the energy of the Russo's environment, and their efforts will never be forgotten." Patch reached out to Russo's about a final closing date, who said it will be sometime this fall.
