Description

An intimate concert, featuring the talented Chris Slaten of Son of Laughter, in the comfortable environment of a backyard. Our first house concert in 2019 was such a hit! We immediately knew that we wanted to make this a regular thing and invited Chris Slaten, of Son of Laughter, to come perform for us in March of 2020. This was one of our great losses of all those 2020 cancellations! One year later--We are so honored (and excited) to finally welcome Chris Slaten as our next musical guest in the Harwell House Concert (quarterly?) series. Chris is an acclaimed singer-songwriter coming to us from Chattanooga. His lyrical genius is guarenteed to knock you off of your seat. You don't want to miss this. What to know: We are only offering 40 seats. Purchase a ticket to secure your spot! This is a kidless event. (Older children who can sit through concerts are fine to come!)This is an active listening event! Son of Laughter is not background music. We will have times of mingling before and after, but hope you'll come prepared to be enthralled by Chris's gift of storytelling!ALL profit from ticket sales go directly to our musical guest. We love supporting artists! We will have some seating available, but please bring your favorite folding armchair if you have one. We will provide drinks and snacks! In Praise of Son of Laughter House Shows: “If you have never done a house show before, Chris Slaten is the perfect person to invite to your house for your first event. His music unfolds over the course of an evening in a warm and personal experience. Chris is a master of inviting an audience into his performance... as a storytelling, singer and musician. My son was captivated by seeing great guitar playing up close and had the Son of Laughter album on repeat for a full week after the house show by Chris.” John Hendrix, Author of The Faithful Spy - St. Louis, MO "We hosted a Son of Laughter show in our home. Chris Slaten's songs peeled back our surfaces and reminded us of longings and hurts and loves we had not known how to voice. The songs were honest and raw, as well as redemptive. He provided us a space and a common language to reveal our lives to one another, and people remained late into the evening sharing God's story in their own lives." Dr. Tim Basselin, Assistant Professor of Media Arts and Worship - Dallas Theological Seminary "Hosting a Son of Laughter concert was a highlight of our year. It was such a beautiful thing to watch friends and visitors be introduced to Chris and his music in our home. Most of the guests had never been to a house concert before, and told us they loved experiencing the music and stories in the intimate setting." David Vogel - Kansas City, MO In Praise of Son of Laughter Recordings: “I admire Chris Slaten for so many things, not the least of which is his immaculate beard. But I love his music even more. His guitar parts are wonderfully inventive, his Paul Simon-esque voice soars, and his lyrics are as whimsical as they are literate. Any release of a new Son of Laughter record is cause for celebration.” Andrew Peterson, singer-songwriter, author of The Wingfeather Saga “With one of the friendliest singing voices I’ve ever heard, Chris Slaten delivers a thoughtful collection of songs in No Story is Over, combining rich theology with a light hearted sound. I will have ‘The Meal We Could Not Make’ on repeat forever and am basically a Son of Laughter fan for life.” Emily P. Freeman, WSJ bestselling author of Simply Tuesday and A Million Little Ways. "Armed with a (Paul) Simonesque voice, an acoustic guitar, and a penchant for storytelling, singer-songwriter Chris Slaten (aka “Son of Laughter”) delivers a thoughtful, bright, and theologically robust exploration of redemption and brokenness."
