Highlighting the collective impact of partnerships between nonprofits in our community. Collective impact strengthens our community and ultimately increases outcomes for the populations that we are serving. It builds on the muscle of collaboration to create a community that is intentional about its approach to solving a problem or multiple problems – together. We often desire to build sustaining partnerships toward a shared goal, but it is challenging to determine the starting point. The nature of our profession is very collaborative, but do you know what it means to be a good partner? How do we ensure that our collective efforts are sustained beyond singular initiatives? Join YNPN Southern Nevada and AFP Las Vegas on Thursday, October 7 at 5:30 pm as we jointly present an opportunity to hear from local nonprofits that developed and sustain collective initiatives! Previously, DiBella served as the Executive Director of Communication and Planning for the UNLV Division of Research and Economic Development for 10 years. She also held various other positions at UNLV, including assistant director of the News and Public Information Office and founding editor of UNLV Magazine. Early in her career, she worked as a journalist for the now-defunct Valley Times newspaper. DiBella holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in communication studies from UNLV and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the UNLV School of Public Policy and Leadership. Her scholarly interests include the effectiveness of research communication and media coverage of science. She is a co-editor of the book, Implementing a Comprehensive Research Compliance Program: A Handbook for Research Officers. Niki BatesDr. Niki Bates is the director of Educational Media Services for Vegas PBS. In her role, Dr. Bates provides supervision, marketing and innovative leadership for the station’s children’s educational television outreach, plus unique services that have been developed to assist Nevada’s schools, such as a media library for families with special needs; early learning parent engagement workshops; teacher training and digital classroom materials; K-12 programs and initiatives; and more. With almost 30 years of experience in both education and business sectors, Dr. Bates holds a master’s degree in special education and a doctoral degree in educational leadership with a minor in curriculum development. She also holds an executive certificate in leadership and management. As a business-minded educator, Dr. Bates’ passion is service, and she is unwavering in her commitment to schools and the community. Punam MathurCurrently, Punam serves as Executive Director of the Elaine P. Wynn & Family Foundation, a private foundation that exists to advance fundamental change, primarily related to equity, civil rights and conservation. She also operates her own business as a speaker, trainer and writer. From 2009-2012, she was an officer of NV Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NVE), a vertically-integrated statewide electric utility with 2,700 employees, serving as vice president of people resources and as vice president of employee and community engagement. She joined NV Energy following 13 years in the gaming industry, most recently serving as an officer and senior vice president, corporate diversity and community affairs, for MGM MIRAGE, now MGM Resorts Int’l (NYSE: MGM). During her tenure, MGM MIRAGE received numerous awards in her areas of responsibility, including being ranked among the "Top 50 Companies for Diversity" by DiversityInc magazine, one of the "Top Corporations in the U.S." for multicultural businesses by DiversityBusiness.com and as one of the “Most Admired Companies in America” by Fortune magazine. Additionally, under her leadership the Company’s philanthropy program, including its centerpiece employee-directed foundation, set new standards for strategic philanthropy and employee engagement within the gaming industry. Prior to joining the gaming industry in 1996, she had been with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce for six years, holding a variety of management positions, the last of which was Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. Dr. Ali CaliendoDr. Caliendo is a tireless advocate for children and families, focusing on kinship, foster, and adoptive families. She launched, funded, and currently serves as the Executive Director of Foster Kinship, a 501c3 non-profit organization devoted to the support of kinship families in the state of Nevada. As a nonprofit leader, she is adept at delivering from the strategic to tactical level with proven results bringing a vision for programs, fundraising and advocacy to fruition. Dr. Caliendo focuses her academic work on policy implications for children in nonparental care in the United States. Her research examines the impacts of child welfare legislation on the formation of nonparental family types across all 50 states and identifies key policy areas that have potentially adverse effects for children in kinship families. She also studies kinship navigator programs across the country. As a former licensed foster and now an adoptive parent herself, Dr. Caliendo is a frequent contributor to the local, state, and national conversation on kinship care, foster care, adoption, and kinship navigator programs. She is also passionate about raising awareness of and improving services for children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
