De Francis Memorial Dash at Laurel Park. Laki breezed an easy half-mile in :50.40 Sunday at historic Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. (Paulick Report) Governor Larry Hogan announced on Monday that the State of Maryland is committed to resettling more Afghan interpreters who have contributed to U.S. efforts in Afghanistan. In the coming weeks, Maryland already expects to receive at least 180 more Afghan nationals through 'Operation Allies Refuge,' an ongoing operation which provides Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) to Afghan and Iraqi nationals who have contributed to U.S. efforts. (Maryland.gov)A Maryland legislator said the state needs to do more to prevent racial disparities in maternal health outcomes. Del. Jheanelle Wilkins, speaking at an online event on birthing inequities, pointed to overall maternal mortality rates for Maryland women that dropped 16% from 2013 to 2017. But during the same time, she noted four times more Black and brown women died after giving birth than white women.
