MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Manatee County Commissioner Kevin Van Ostenbridge was hospitalized Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19.
He first experienced symptoms Aug. 7 and his condition worsened Thursday, the Manatee Herald reported. He was brought to Blake Medical Center by Manatee County EMS Saturday around 4 p.m.
The fully vaccinated commissioner received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after a June COVID-19 outbreak at the Manatee County administration building in downtown Bradenton.
Van Ostenbridge, who represents District 3, attended recent Board of County Commission and other meetings by Zoom because of his illness, reports said.
He told the Manatee Herald, "I don't have a release date at this time. This won't keep me down for long. I'll be back in the chamber before you know it."
Patch has reached out to Manatee County's government spokesperson for additional information.
