ROMEOVILLE, IL — Valley View students head back to school in just a few short days, and Superintendent Rachel Kinder recently shared information about how the return to school will look. "As I have shared multiple times, our priority is full, in-person instruction for all students for the 2021-22 school year, continuity in learning and support, and the physical and emotional safety of everyone in our learning community," Kinder said in a message shared on the district's Facebook page. She said the district is focused on taking a "proactive approach" to minimize risks and respond when conditions change due to COVID-19. The district has shared Health and Safety Commitments for students and staff, which includes a mask requirement for all vaccinated and unvaccinated staff, students and visitors indoors; daily symptom screening; distancing in the classrooms, hallways and lunchroom; and contact tracing and quarantine following IDPH protocols. "The difference in the level of success or struggle in the upcoming year will be based on our collective ability to work through challenges, disappointments, and make the best of the circumstances, despite our own personal preferences or opinions," Kinder said. In early August, Gov. J.B. Pritzker mandated that all public and nonpublic schools in Illinois must require the indoor use of face coverings for students, staff and visitors. If schools do not follow the mask mandate, they may lose state recognition, which could impact participation in state programs and sports. The first day of school for Valley View students is Thursday. For more news and information like this, subscribe to the Romeoville Patch for free.
