JOLIET, IL — Joliet's zoning board will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday to review construction plans for a large self-storage facility proposed along Drauden Road northwest of Theodore Street. The project applicant, Richard Hester of Fourth Generation Properties, is seeking a variance and a special-use permit from Joliet to construct an indoor climate-controlled storage facility with outdoor mini-storage units on Lot 2 of the new Lenny's Food N Fuel that opened this spring. The Lenny's features a convenience store, a car wash, plus a Dunkin' Donuts and a Ta Canijo Tacos restaurant. According to city documents, the proposed mini-storage unit project calls for a one-story, 10,950-square-foot climate controlled indoor storage facility plus five outside-access one-story buildings with mini-storage units. In total, the project calls for about 390 storage units of different sizes with 51,900-square-feet of storage space. Renters would be able to access their storage units from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to documents submitted to city officials. Renters would access their storage units through a secured gate and the business would be staffed about 30 hours per week, the documents indicate.
