SAN MATEO, CA — Caltrain will cut fares in half during the month of September and increase service that will surpass pre-pandemic levels. Beginning Aug. 30, Caltrain will run 104 trains per weekday, which is higher than any point in its history, according to a news release. During peak commuting hours, there will be four trains running per hour, with the addition of hourly Baby Bullet express trains. Caltrain, which saw a drastic drop in ridership during the pandemic, said that ridership is "continuing to improve." Ridership is currently exceeding 12 percent of pre-pandemic levels on weekdays and 40 percent on weekends, according to Caltrain. The service updates also include the restoration of a third Gilroy train and an improvement to the timetable for BART connections at the Millbrae Transit Center. Click here for Caltrain's schedule.
