ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a domestic disturbance, a yelling man at a store, drugs, a DUI, underage drinking and a suspicious person, among other things. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Domestic battery Michael Kudra, 19, of Elmhurst, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of South Swain on two counts of domestic battery. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, Kudra struck another person on the side of the head. The victim's ear was red and swollen. Store disturbance A woman told police that while employees were having difficulties completing her payment for groceries, a man became loud and shouted profanities at her. Labeled as disorderly conduct, the incident happened about 5 p.m. Thursday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. Police looked for the man, but could not find him. The man was described as Hispanic, 30 years old, 6 feet, 190 pounds, having black hair, and wearing a blue T-shirt and blue jeans. Drugs Steven Foster, 63, of Bensenville, was arrested about 6 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of North York on a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, an officer and medics responded to a man, later identified as Foster, who was having trouble getting on his bicycle. He was found to be in possession of heroin. DUI Jose Astudillo-Vazquez, 50, of Streamwood, was arrested about 11 p.m. Friday at Schiller and York on charges of aggravated DUI, driving with a revoked license and illegal transportation of open alcohol. He was released on bond. According to a police report, he was found asleep behind the wheel. A search of the vehicle yielded open beer cans. Underage drinking Five 18-year-olds were cited on charges of consumption of alcohol by a minor about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Oaklawn. One was also charged with possession of marijuana under 21. Suspicious person Police were called about a suspicious person about 8:30 p.m. Sunday near Jewel, 944 S. York St. The caller said she witnessed a man with what she believed to be a weapon. Officers contacted the suspect, who said he was listening to music and did not have any weapons. Phone scam A resident in the 200 block of Larch Avenue told police Thursday that he gave his personal information and remote access to his computer to someone he did not know who called him. Later, the victim received text messages from PayPal and Coinbase about attempted logins to his accounts. He contacted his bank, froze his accounts and was advised to take steps to protect his identity. Dog at large A dog at large was found about 6 p.m. Thursday near Parker and North End. The aggressive dog was taken to DuPage Animal Hospital, where it tried to bite an employee. The dog was taken to DuPage County Animal Control. Harassing messages A woman in the 900 block of Virginia Lane told police Friday that she had received harassing and threatening text messages from someone and wanted to document the problem. The officer tried to contact the other person, but had no success. The officer provided the victim with information on how to obtain an order of protection. Stolen semi-trailer A 53-foot semi-trailer was stolen between July 27 and Aug. 13 in the lot at 728 Industrial Drive. Email scam A resident in the 400 block of Holly Avenue told police Friday that she received an email from a person posing as an Amazon customer service agent. The suspect requested her bank account, debit card and credit card information. The victim provided her debit and credit card information and later learned of fraudulent purchases on her debit card. Domestic disturbance Officers responded to Fischer Park, 200 E. Diversey Ave., about 11 p.m. Friday. A person told the officers that she was involved in a domestic disturbance with her stepfather. The incident took place in unincorporated Elmhurst. The DuPage County Sheriff's Office was informed. Fraud in progress Police were called Saturday to iMotorsports, 334 W. Grand Ave., while a fraudulent transaction was in progress. The business said a customer was trying to buy a motorcycle with a fictitious driver's license. The suspect was taken into custody and driven to the police station, but was later released pending further investigation. Break-in suspected A resident in the 200 block of West St. Charles Road said that upon arriving home from vacation Saturday, she found her back exterior door handles broken, as if someone tried to force the doors open. Video surveillance showed the suspect knock on the front door and circle the house several times from 1:35 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday. The incident was reported about 7:30 p.m. the same day. The suspect was described as a white man, in his early 20s, and wearing a light-colored T-shirt and shorts. Egging A woman said that while her car was parked Sunday on the third level of the parking deck at 135 N. Addison Ave., a person egged it. The victim did not have any information on the suspect. Bike issues A person told police Friday that someone stole his unattended, unsecured black and gray Specialized bicycle from Pioneer Park in the 500 block of Mitchell Avenue. An officer found the bike at Elmhurst Public Library, took it to the police station and returned it to the victim. The victim did not wish to pursue charges. An unlocked bicycle was stolen between 5 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of East Vallette Street. The bike was unlocked in an unfenced back yard. An Elmhurst Park District employee found an abandoned blue girl's mountain bicycle about 1:30 p.m. Friday near the sled hill at Berens Park, 493 Oaklawn Ave. An officer tried to find the owner through several databases, but had no success. The bike was placed into evidence for safekeeping. Fugitive drivers An officer tried to stop a silver Nissan Maxima about 10:30 p.m. Sunday near North and Villa for failure to wear a seat belt. The driver sped away. An officer saw a black Jeep SUV without headlights or tail lights shortly after midnight Sunday near St. Charles and Arlington. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away. Ding dong ditch A resident in the 600 South Fairfield Road told police that seven or eight children rang his doorbell and ran away north on Berkley Avenue about 10 p.m. Sunday. The resident said he had previous issues with the children throwing eggs at his house. He said believed the youths live in the area. Guns turned in A person in the 900 block of North York Street on Sunday wanted to turn in guns that belonged to her late parents. An officer took possession of the guns and placed them into evidence for destruction. Driving violations Hector Salazar, 26, of Franklin Park, was cited about 10 p.m. Friday at Spring and St. Charles on charges of driving with a suspended license and failure to dim headlights. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
