Girl, 7, Killed In Sunday Shooting; 6-Year-Old Sister Wounded

CHICAGO — A 7-year-old girl was killed and her 6-year-old sister critically injured after a shooting Sunday afternoon on Chicago's North Side, Chicago police said. The shooting happened at around 2:50 p.m. in the 6200 block of West Grand Avenue. According to a media notification, the girls were sitting in a parked car. The 6-year-old was shot in the chest and right armpit, officials said. She was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where her condition is listed as stable. The 7-year-old was also taken to Loyola Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, the young girl was identified as Serenity Broughton, of South Shore. Officials at a Sunday evening news conference said the girls' mother was putting the children in the back seat of the car when they were shot; they do not believe the family was targeted.
