48 Positive COVID-19 Cases Reported In Mountain Brook Schools

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — The 2021-22 school year is just a week old, and Mountain Brook Schools has already reported 48 positive COVID-19 tests. As well, 69 people were designated as close contact by the 3-foot, 15-minute criteria from the Alabama Department of Public Health. Of the 69 people designated as "close contact," 24 were able to return to school due to their vaccination status. Mountain Brook School want to remind parents of some safety guidelines: Facial coverings are required indoors at all MBS facilities until further notice.Maintain personal hygiene (wash hands for 20 seconds with soap and water, use hand sanitizer frequently).Remember to distance and avoid large crowds.Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell.The delta variant of COVID-19 has had a more significant affect on kids than the initial form of the virus, as hospitals throughout the state are seeing more children admitted. In fact, Children's of Alabama reported that five patients are currently on ventilators. "While no situation is perfect, we believe in our community, its resilience, and its steadfast belief that children benefit from being in school," superintendent Dicky Barlow said in a statement. "Our teachers and staff continue to excel in their pursuit of providing your children with the best education possible. Much like last school year, things are changing on a daily basis and we are doing our best to monitor those changes and keep you updated."
