Find out about how the IEC (Iowa Environmental Council) has worked more than 25 years to lead the way to creating a safe, healthy environment and sustainable future for Iowa! Through advocacy, education and coalition-building, the IEC creates large-scale change that makes Iowa a better place to live. For instance, recently IEC and Environmental Law & Policy Center filed a petition with Iowa’s Environmental Protection Commission to protect drinking water, groundwater, and karst terrain from CAFO pollution. The rules would restrict development of large animal feeding operations in sensitive landscapes, such as the Bloody Run watershed. You’ll also hear about other notable stories from 2021, including drought, harmful algal blooms, IWILL and what to expect for the fall. It’s been a busy year for environmental advocates.
