Learn to sew with Sarah the Upcyclist. We provide sewing machines and tools, you bring clothes to work with. Or that some thrift stores do not keep your clothes to sell, so they're diverted to landfills or exported to another country altogether, oversaturating markets and disrupting local economies. Upcycling clothes you already own is a fantastic habit to take up as a conscious consumer. Femme Fatale DC and @sarah.the.upcyclist want to encourage you to take up a new hobby and become more conscious about your fashion consumption by learning how to machine sew through upcycling! Step into the role of designer this Thursday: WHEN: Wednesday, August 18th, 4-7 WHERE: Femme Fatale DC (3409 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008) WHAT: Sustainable Sewing Upcycle Workshop teaches you to sew by upcycling an item or two from your closet. Together, we will design the best new life for your old clothes. Sarah will guide you through all the steps you need to know: threading a machine, cutting fabric, basic stitches, common troubleshooting. WHO: Beginner and intermediate levels welcome. Never touched a sewing machine before? Beginner/Intermediate looking to learn new techniques? Intermediate who wants to work on their eye for rework design? This workshop is for anyone. WHAT SHOULD I BRING? We'll provide the sewing machines, scissors, thread; all you need to do is bring the clothes you want to work with. Please bring one tee-shirt (preferably oversized) and at least one other item from your closet so you have options of materials to work on. Simple patterns for masks and bucket hats will be available. Space is limited to 2-3 spaces, so the workshop will be completely personalized for your needs and skills. Questions?
