First, today's weather: Partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 81 Low: 56. Here are the top stories today in Beaverton: Hopefully, some of you made it downtown to see the art lined the streets at the annual Night Market and chalk art festival on Saturday. Organizers said it was great to be back together after a tough year and a half. (KATU) A Beaverton man died in Hagg Lake on Saturday. Satoru Kamoshita, 61, was kayaking on the lake when he decided to go for a swim. Witnesses called 911 when Kamoshita failed to surface, and divers found his body a few hours later. (KOIN.com) Watch out for former Beaverton resident Sam Noyer in the lineup for Oregon State Beavers QB possibilities. Noyer was the quarterback for the University of Colorado team for five seasons. He was named second-team All-Pac-12 in 2020. (NBC Sports)Mayor Lacey Beaty is working to overturn bans on window air conditioner units after this summer's devastating heat waves. Many apartment buildings won't allow the units because sloppy installation can damage buildings or even cause a safety hazard. After discovering that the city couldn't prohibit the air conditioner bans, the mayor and her staff have turned to meeting with local landlords, hoping to persuade them to make a change. (KGW) The OregonLive Editorial Board compared statistics on COVID-19 throughout the state. Washington County continues to have the state's highest vaccination rate (77 percent of adults), and it's seen only one COVID-related death since June 30. In contrast, Douglas County, one-fifth the population of Washington County, has had 16 COVID-related deaths in the same time period.
