600+ Scottsdale Students Quarantined After Virus Exposure

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — More than 600 Scottsdale Unified School District students are under quarantine after coming in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, according to a report. In a letter sent to parents Friday, Superintendent Scott Menzel said that since school started on Aug. 4, there have been 78 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on-campus, AZFamily.com reported. One hundred fifty students were also sent home. Scottsdale Unified School District does not have a mask mandate in place. On Saturday, Arizona state officials confirmed an additional 3,418 new COVID-19 cases, surpassing 3,000 for the second consecutive day. Twenty-seven people also died from the disease. What's happening at Scottsdale Unified is a stark contrast to last year, Menzel told AZFamily. "This trend, if not disrupted, will invariably require not only quarantining even larger numbers of students but potentially require us to also close classrooms or buildings for significant periods of time and return to virtual learning," Menzel said.
