Description

Two weeks ago (August 2) while barbecuing, a skinny nervous manx cat showed up. We live in the country and had caught glimpses of it in the area for about the last 6 months. None of our neighbors knew who’s it was. It was evident that it was a female and appeared to possibly have kittens. Being an animal person and recognizing a stressed animal I started feeding her. She was HUNGRY! Sure enough some days later we caught glimpses of kittens in our tack room. While I’ve had cats my whole life, I’ve never had a litter of kittens and these appeared to be about 4 weeks old at the time. Our local animal shelter gave me some help on how to socialize them. Currently, the mama cat is now very friendly but still skittish around loud abrupt noises. Once I started them on solid food, I’ve been able to pet the kittens a little. They have also been using a litter box. That’s good! I don’t feel that they are ready to adopt yet, but I’m working on it and would accept any advice that any animal people could provide. I you have any hints or advice, please email me. I will update this post periodically on Craigslist and will include additional contact info when the kittens are available. There are 5 kittens in all, 2 are manx and 3 have tails. I look forward to any help viewers may have. Thank you. P.S. The stressed cat photo is the mama cat the day she showed up.
