Description
Have you recently taken up the violin, viola, cello, or string bass? Or are you interested in re-connecting with a stringed instrument you used to play but haven’t touched in years? If so, we are the group for you!
We are the brand new East Tennessee Late Starters String Orchestra, a group now forming for new and returning players dedicated to the joy of playing music—imperfectly! While we do hope to form a group for absolute beginners soon, at the moment we’re focusing on those who already know how to read music and understand the basics of how to play their instrument. If this sounds like you, you are ready!
Our format will be simple. We’ll play from music arranged especially for our skill level(s). The music will include classical, folk, traditional, American Songbook, and other styles. Many pieces will feature “easy, medium, and challenging” lines so you can pick the part that’s most comfortable for you. We won’t have a “conductor” but a friendly group leader who is an experienced musician who will guide the group while playing along.
With a strong focus on keeping everything fun and casual, while consistently growing our skills, this is a group that will emphasize recreational playing rather than “performance.”
