Description

A four-part movement, sonic & wellness series for BIPOC womexn. Reclaiming the Lakou 9 am - 10:30 am “The Lottie Lot” located at 2125 N. Lottie OKC, OK 73111 Created by Djaspora Productions in Partnership w/ Lillian Timber Farms In Haitian Kreyol, “Lakou” means courtyard, but it also has multiple and complex meanings. In this workshop series, we look to the Lakou system created by formerly enslaved people following the Haitian Revolution in opposition to the plantation system that existed and was based on racial and class divisions. A Lakou consists of multiple families organized around a courtyard and emphasizes self-reliance by collectively working the soil and promotes mutual social responsibility. The Lakou is also where native culture is sacred, stories are told, music is made, bodies dance, healing is done, and ancestral spiritual practices are held. In this four-part series, we invite BIPOC womxn who are actively engaged in doing the work of protecting, advocating, healing, and creating on behalf of their communities to join us in dancing, tending to the soil, and engaging in restorative practices. We want to create intentional space for those who don't usually take time for self-care but please don't count yourself out. If you feel like you could really use this practice you likely do! The workshops will be lead by choreographer and cultural curator/producer Marie Casimir with guest Co-facilitators August 7 Finding Your Inner Rhythm An ancestral movement and sound workshop W/ Marie Casimir August 14 Movement Exploration for your practice W/ Jessica Ray Deep Movemnet, writing, gesture, and collective creation August 21 In Chant It A sound and affirmation workshop with Changing FrEQunecies August 28 “Sacred Healing Properties of Plants” w/ LaTasha Timberlake Fresh fruit will be prorovided.
