Description

Dallas's pretty much only carnivorous plant gallery makes plans for August The Gila monster (Heloderma suspectum), the United States' only venomous lizard, survives the blasting heat of the Sonoran Desert by moving underground and only emerging in the early morning. The Texas Triffid Ranch, Dallas's pretty much only carnivorous plant gallery, opens its August event season by moving its famed Carnivorous Plant Porch Sales indoors for the month, thus sparing both visitors and plants from the cement kiln that is outdoors in late summer in North Texas. Come out to view unique carnivorous plant enclosures containing pitcher plants (Asian, North American, South American, and Australian), sundews, butterworts, bladderworts, and Australian triggerplants, all available for purchase and some for rental. The festivities start on Saturday, August 14 at 10:00 am and runs until 3:00 pm, with this schedule repeating on August 28. (To celebrate the Triffid Ranch's sixth anniversary, the schedule for August 21 is 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.) As always, admission is free and masks are mandatory. For more information, directions, and an idea of what to expect, please visit http://www.texastriffidranch.com, and consider this an alternative to the typical August tradition in Dallas of "Near Dark" cosplay. The Texas Triffid Ranch is Dallas’s pretty much only carnivorous plant gallery, located just east of Central Expressway and Spring Valley. Open both by appointment and for special gallery showings.
