Black Women Get Fit is an Annual Wellness Event designed to inspire, enlighten and help Black women on the journey to radical self care! It's the 4th Annual Black Women Get Fit Event! We will meet at Swope Park this year - Check-in starts @ 7:00 a.m. at the Bandstand! Saturday, October 2nd8:00 a.m. Welcome, Ryana Parks-Shaw 5th District City Council 8:15 a.m. Morning Inspiration, Chris Omni MPH 12:00 p.m. Lunch Keynote Speaker, Julee Jonez Radio Personality All Body sessions will be held at Swope Park Bandstand and the Mind and Soul sessions will be held inside the Southeast Community Center. Yoga - Brittany Echols Yogini B - A hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, includes breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific body postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation. Chair Fitness - Estelle Brooks FIT4UIS4U - Designed for anyone who might have a health or physical issue, or just starting to work out. We focus on improving mobility, balance, and activities that help maintain greater control of your health. You can use a chair or stand, whatever is most comfortable. Fit4UIS4U Health & Fitness Class Moto: YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING! Soul Line Dancing - De Barker Dance wit De - Dance and music routines (The Kansas City 2 Step and Soul Line Dance) that target health and wellness goals, using techniques that speak to Art and the History of Dance! Tai Chi - Carolyn King - This ancient Chinese exercise strengthens our body and relaxes our mind, making us more harmonious with ourselves. Using a gentle flow of movements that empower us, as well as improve balance. Tabata! - Dawn Rattan Everfit - One of the most popular forms of high intensity interval training (HIIT). It consists of eight rounds of ultra high intensity exercises in 20 seconds-on, 10 seconds-off intervals. It may only take four minutes to complete each exercise, but those four minutes may well push your body to its absolute limit. West African Dance - Yaminah Muhammad Esoke Cultural Arts Center - An essential component of West African culture through dance that incorporates moves, rhythms & rituals central to tribal life and often participatory, with spectators being part of the performance. Mixxedfit Dance - Tiffany Sanders NickiFit LLC - Mixxedfit is a people inspired dance fitness format that includes explosive movements and body weight toning. Running 101 - Kimiko Gilmore Black Girls RUN! - BGR is not your average running group, but a community of women taking steps to change lives and the lives of thousands of women across the country. Road Cycling - Angela Habeebulah Major Taylor Cycling Club - Riding a bike is a healthy, fun and a low-impact form of exercise. Hear about S.T.A.R.S and tips on how to get started. Walking - Cassandra Coffee GirlTrek - In the footsteps of a civil rights legacy, GirlTrek is a national health movement that activates thousands of black women to be change maker in their lives and communities through walking. Spinning - Erika Griffin The Thinner Side - Erika has lost over 129 lbs and spinning has part of her weight loss journey. Erika will be on hand throughout the morning to talk about her journey and the benefit of Spinning. Zumba - Nina Johnson ACE Certified Personal Trainer-Zumba is a fun and energetic fitness class that provides a blend of dance styles salsa, merengue, hip-hop and reggaetón. MIND & SOUL WORKSHOPS Living Your Best Life - Eileen Hamilton - What does living your best life mean? What does it look like. Since the initial siting of the phrase in Oprah Winfrey's book in 2005, there have been many other "opinions" added to the contemporary tapestry of American life. Is this session, well discuss the key ingredients of living your best life especially the definition that fits Gods plan for our lives. Becoming a Fearless Woman - Dacia Moore - Getting your second wind is a workshop for women who are at a cross roads in their lives. Participants will learn tools to overcome fear and other mental obstacles so they can get their second wind and soar to their next level of success. Black and Blue: Dismantling Your Inner and Outer Critical Voice - Dr. Sydney Spears Demystifying Mental Health - Nadirah Habeebullah, LMFT How to Deal with Family Mental & Substance use Disorders - Latanya Dumas Connecting to Self Through Nature - Chris Omni MPH - Join Chris Omni for a interactive workshop that introduces attendees to the practice of earthing. Once you drop that metaphorical cape associated with being a strong black womxn and kick off your shoes, you'll understand that earthing is much more than just being bear foot in nature.
