Press release from University of Wisconsin - Green Bay:
August 12, 2021
Keifer Sykes has been playing basketball most of his life, certainly long enough to know when a shot feels good coming out of his hands.
The former University of Wisconsin-Green Bay star guard had that feeling Tuesday night when he pulled up from behind the 3-point arc and drilled a thrilling game-winner to lead Boeheim's Army to The Basketball Tournament title and a $1 million prize. It was announced a few minutes later that Sykes signed a contract with the Indiana Pacers, although it had nothing to do with his heroics. He'd already agreed to a deal a short time after the NBA draft.
The 6-foot Sykes made a lot of big shots on his way to scoring 2,096 points for UWGB from 2011 to 2015. He's made plenty more during a successful career overseas. But it doesn't get much better — or more lucrative — than this one.
"I've never made a million-dollar shot," Sykes said. "I made that same shot maybe a thousand times, but not a million dollars. As far as ranking them, it has to be up there. Especially later in my career, I've been wanting to win a championship since my first year after winning one in Korea.
