Man Injured, Dog Killed As SUV Slams Into House In Meriden

MERIDEN, CT — A sport utility vehicle crashed into a house on Yale Avenue late Friday night, injuring a man and killing his dog, according to Meriden police. Around 11:44 p.m., police received notification that a vehicle had crashed into the side of a house at 365 Yale Avenue. A white Chevrolet Equinox was found to have crashed into a bedroom occupied by a man who had been sleeping, as well as his dog, Sgt. Stanley Zajac said. The man was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition. His dog was found dead in the bedroom by Meriden firefighters, Zajac said. Stephanie Lancaster, 40, of Meriden, was driving the Equinox west on Miller Avenue, nearing Yale Avenue, and left the roadway in front of 381 Yale. In front of 373 Yale, the SUV became airborne and clipped a corner of the house there, landing on top of a car parked in the driveway, then continued into the side of 365 Yale, penetrating halfway into the bedroom, Zajac said. Lancaster was taken to Hartford Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Zajac said. No charges have yet been filed, as the crash remains under investigation by the Meriden Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
