By Steve Burger, WNIN Aug. 14, 2021 For students and other children in the Henderson County School District, there will be such a thing as a free lunch this school year. Henderson County School officials announced this week that they'll be offering free breakfast and lunch to all children age eighteen and under in the county during the 2021-2022 school year. Henderson County Director of Child Nutrition Charlotte Baumgartner says that students will get the meals at school, while other children will be able to get them at community sites. The school district is participating in the Seamless Summer Option of the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. There is no fee for the program. Families do not have to submit a household application in order to participate, although they will need to fill out the application for other types of school related aid. The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation has begun the new school year with a mask mandate.
