Description

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester firefighters responded to the Elliot Hospital on Thursday for a report of fire alarms sounding. When firefighters arrived at about 11:30 p.m. they had major water flow in one of the treatment rooms. Fire crews discovered the fire supression system had activated due to a malfunction. The system was shut down as quickly as possible with the assistance of personnel from the hospital. Manchester Fire Batalion Chief Robert Beaudet said the sensitive areas located below the emergency department were covered with salvage covers to limit damages. Emergency department personnel had quickly evacuated all of the patients to other treatment areas within the hospital. The emergency department went into diversion status that directed incoming ambulances to other hospitals until approximately 5 a.m. on Friday while repairs were made and cleanup operations by hospital staff were completed.
