Former Pickensville Town Clerk Gets Jail Time After Guilty Plea

PICKENSVILLE, AL — Former Pickensville town clerk Sidra Simpson, 46, will spend the next year in jail after pleading guilty to the use of an official position for personal gain. Simpson was first arrested on July 26, 2019 and charged with an ethics violation relating to the theft of public funds from the town. Prior to her arrest, she had served for a decade as the town's court clerk, magistrate and town clerk. Joey Barnes of WCBI News in Columbus, Mississippi reported that as part of her plea deal, Simpson will go to jail and be on probation for five years. District Attorney Andy Hamlin told the Golden Triangle television station that Simpson must also pay the Town of Pickensville $50,000 in restitution for the money she stole.
