People should wear masks and practice social distancing, irrespective of their vaccination status. We are in a new phase of the pandemic; 1) The Delta variant is hyper contagious and aggressive. 2) A significant proportion of Oregon (including children) remain unvaccinated. 3) Oregon is experiencing high transmission in all counties and hospitals are swiftly reaching a breaking point. Vaccinated people are far less likely to contract the classic/original Covid-19, but are likelier to become infected with the Delta variant. They might or might not show symptoms of their infection. How can one be sure they are not transmitting infection to vulnerable people? Faced with the threat of yet more contagious variants, like Delta Plus, it’s imperative to limit opportunities for the virus to spread. Like any war effort, we must set aside ourselves and make sacrifices for the whole. The discomfort of wearing a mask pales in comparison to the protection it has against the common COVID-19 enemy. It is awesome that you got your vaccination, now I hope you will please reconsider and start to wear your mask.
