We are excited to be see you this year! Please join us on Saturday, September 11th, at 10 o’clock for the Break the Silence 5K walk. Our walk is to remember those lost to suicide, raise awareness of this public health issue, and promote local mental health resources. The DetailsWho should attend: All are welcome! Bring your bestie, bring you mom, bring your kids, bring your dogs. Heck, bring your cat (yes, 2019. I have pictures!) If you want to show your support in the efforts to reduce deaths by suicide in our community; if you want to walk in honor and remembrance of a soul lost to suicide; if you want to show your love and support of those who struggle with mental health illnesses or to those who are trudging through grief and stigma, then you will want to be there. Registration: Registration is free, but of course, donations are always welcome! We encourage you to register on-line so that we are sure to have adequate refreshments, coffee, and snacks on hand for the number of people that attend. We also offer registration in person the morning of the walk beginning at 8:30. Check in for those already registered begins at 9. Walk launches at 10:00. The Shirt: This year, we have a Break the Silence commemorative shirt available for purchase for $35. The 2021 shirt is a long-sleeve cotton featuring this year’s artwork by Josh Kirby. Shirt sizes are all adult sizes. Honor Beads: As part of the 2021 Break the Silence Walk, we ask that you join us in wearing Honor Beads. Each of the nine different color beads recognizes your personal connection to the cause, and is a way to connect with others who may have a similar experience. Free Honor Beads will be available the morning of the walk upon registration. The Course: The Break the Silence walk launches at the beautiful Riverstone Park. The walk begins on the Centennial Trail, and continues along Prairie Trail to the turn-around sign located at the halfway point, where water and snacks will be available to fuel you for your return. The walk will have signage throughout to keep you on the right path. Upon your return to Riverstone Park, there will be plenty of water, light snacks, and music to enjoy! The Vendors: Community resource vendor tables will be open between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm. Give them each a visit to acquaint yourself with the many local mental health and crisis resources available to you in our community and to pick up some free swag! The Music: Back for the third time, our favorite DJ and local all-around good guy, Alejandro! Parking: Many storefronts have graciously offered their parking areas for Break the Silence attendees. Those lots will be clearly marked as walk attendee parking areas. Please be courteous of their property. Parking in other private parking areas will be at your own risk. **Due to the current increase of COVID-19 transmission, Panhandle Health District is requesting attendees to wear a mask at the gathering point at check in.
