Grand Marshals Lonnie McFadden and Mayor Quinton Lucas Join us for the official homecoming celebration for Charlie Parker's famous Grafton saxophone, after a six-month stay at Walt Disney World EPCOT! 4:00 pm - Parade from the Crossroads to the 18th & Vine District 5:00 pm - Celebration at the American Jazz Museum Jay McShann Pavilion with food trucks, music, and activities for all ages. 6:00 pm - VIP pre-party ($101 donation or ticket purchase required to attend). 7:00 pm - 'Bird at 100' Charlie Parker tribute show in the American Jazz Museum's back yard ________________________________________________ About: In the Yard is a $101,000 campaign to elevate the American Jazz Museum's mission to celebrate and exhibit the experience of jazz as an original American art form through performance, exhibition, education, and research. Funds from this campaign will create new opportunities to: • Foster cultural equity, awareness, and a love of jazz in younger generations through the American Jazz Museum's signature youth education programs: Jazz Storytelling and the Kansas City Jazz Academy • Increase access and exposure to the jazz art form by digitizing and preserving special artifacts, films, and archived performances • Nurture and develop a thriving, connected musician community through the KC Jazz Incubator: a new initiative that will support local musicians using four fundamental elements of jazz: improvisation, collaboration, innovation, and mentorship Text 'BIRDLIVES' to 44-321 to make a contribution of any size, and join us on August 29th to join in the celebration!
