NEWTON, MA — The University of Rhode Island (URI) has announced its 2021 graduates, including three students from Newton who now hold bachelor's degrees.
URI celebrated over 4,000 students at its 135th Commencement, which was held over three days from May 21 to 23. More than 3,700 undergraduate degrees and 680 graduate degrees were awarded during nine individual ceremonies.
The following Class of 2021 students from Newton received degrees at the ceremony:
Natalina Eileen Mastroianni of Auburndale graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science.Anita Hazel Mayfield-Sheehan of Chestnut Hill received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology & Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.Douglas Andrew Whitham of Auburndale graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. Students who graduate summa cum laude had a cumulative GPA of at least 3.7, students who graduated magna cum laude had a GPA of at least 3.5, and students who graduated cum laude had a GPA of at least 3.3.
URI was founded in 1892 and offers 203 academic programs in various disciplines. The school has over 14,500 undergraduate students and 2,250 graduate students from 48 states and 76 countries. For more information, click here.
