STAMFORD, CT — Caroline Simmons, the endorsed Democratic candidate for mayor of Stamford, received two union endorsements this week, her campaign announced. Simmons received the nods from Connecticut's CSEA SEIU Local 2001 and SEIU 1199NE "Labor unions represent the needs of thousands of workers our community relies on every day and it is an honor to receive an endorsement from both CSEA SEIU Local 2001 and SEIU District 1199NE," Simmons said in a news release. "These unions ensure workers receive fair wages and working conditions so our community has a reliable workforce for the vital services we need. I look forward to maintaining a relationship with union workers as I address affordability in Stamford as Mayor." The Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) represent workers such as municipal staff, public school employees, drivers, childcare providers, custodial workers, security officers, window cleaners, and many more. CSEA SEIU Local 2001 represents over 25,000 members in Connecticut. SEIU District 1199NE represents over 26,000 members in Connecticut. Simmons was endorsed by her party last month over incumbent Mayor David Martin by just two votes. Earlier this week, Martin submitted the requisite number of signatures needed to force a primary, which is slated for Sept. 14. Bobby Valentine, a Stamford native and longtime Major League Baseball manager, will appear on the ballot in November as an unaffiliated candidate. Joe Corsello, a former Stamford police officer, was endorsed last month by Republicans.
