GROTON, CT — Four people on a capsized boat in the Long Island Sound were rescued Thursday morning, according to a statement from Groton Town police. Police received the call 10:40 a.m. regarding a 22-foot center console boat that had capsized in The Race at the eastern entrance to Long Island Sound between Fisher's Island and Plum Island.
Groton Town police's Marine unit responded to the scene. The four people from the capsized boat had been rescued by another boat that was in the area.
The family of four from New Hampshire were brought aboard the Groton Town police boat and assessed for injuries, according to police. No injuries were reported, and the family was later returned to their car on shore.
Assisting in the emergency were Coast Guard Station New London, Southold New York Police Marine Unit, and Tow Boat US from Mystic. Tow Boat US towed the capsized vessel to an area boat launch where it was safely removed from the water and returned to the owner.
